These Chocolate-Covered Strawberries have become a family tradition at our house for several holidays and annual parties! I had previously used a different recipe, but I wanted the best of both worlds: a higher quality chocolate taste and a recipe that was easy to make, so I crafted this version. My family loves the taste of the these…and I love the easy preparation!
You’ll only need a few ingredients to make these. Strawberries, Semi-Sweet and Milk Chocolate Chips, and butter. Note that the amount of chocolate strawberries this will make depends upon how large your strawberries are and how much chocolate you like on each strawberry, but I have estimated this recipe to make about 20 chocolate covered strawberries.
Some of the cheaper brands of chocolate chips do not melt well. I prefer Ghirardelli or Guittard. Also, if you prefer a darker chocolate taste, you can use all semi-sweet chocolate chips. I have made them this way previously, I just prefer the combination. I suppose you could also use all milk chocolate if you want a sweeter taste. In my opinion this mixture is not too bitter or too sweet.
I try to wash my strawberries several hours before I make these so that the strawberries have time to dry. If they aren’t completely dry, the chocolate just doesn’t stick to the strawberries correctly. If you don’t have time to let them air dry for a while, then blot them with a paper towel or a dish towel. (Use a dish towel that you don’t care about or wash it soon after as the red from the strawberries can stain.)
These pictures show larger amounts than the recipe as written, but I doubled the recipe as I was having a family party.
I placed parchment paper on cookie sheets, but you can also spray a thin layer of cooking spray on them if you don’t have parchment paper. I have done it both ways. You could just put parchment paper on your counter and put the strawberries on there, BUT be warned that then you will not be able to transfer them to the fridge easily. (I found this out the hard way.)
I cut up the butter into small squares (about 1/2 inch) and layer the chocolate chips and the butter in a 2 cup size Pyrex measuring cup. Then I cook it in the microwave for a minute.
Holding a strawberry by the leafy end, I dipped it in the chocolate and placed directly on the cookie sheet/parchment paper.
Once I had dipped all of the strawberries, I put the cookie sheets in the fridge for at least 20 min to allow the chocolate to harden before serving. They transfer easily to a serving dish if you use parchment paper or cooking spray.
Store strawberries in the refrigerator.
On occassion, I have melted some white chocolate almond bark (just follow directions on package) and drizzled on top…

- 1/2 c high quality semi sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 c high quality milk chocolate chips
- 3-4 Tbsp butter
- 20 strawberries

- Wash strawberries and dry completely.
- Set out 2 cookie sheets and spray with cooking spray or cover with parchment paper.
- Cut butter into 1/2 inch squares. Layer chocolate chips and butter squares in glass bowl or glass Pyrex measuring container. Microwave for 1 minute. Stir with a whisk until lumps disappear and consistency is smooth. (Start out with first measurement and if lumps will not disappear or chocolate is not dipping consistency, melt 1 Tbsp. butter and while still hot, add slowly and stir until desired consistency.)
- Holding strawberry by the green leafy end, dip strawberry into chocolate and immediately place on cookie sheets/parchment paper. Repeat with each strawberry.
- Refrigerate for 20 min. to harden chocolate or until ready to serve. Place on serving platter. Refrigerate leftover strawberries.
